Help with garden design/layout/tree/shrubs etc

Like many previous posts in this forum, I am a first time buyer and first time owner of modest size garden. It is 22 meter long and 8.5 meter wide. It has a pine tree on one corner and a lendi in the back, which needs to be included in the design layout.

It is empty plot now so looking for feedback, ideas, inspiration etc. I attach two pics showing the current state and what I have tried to draw on an online tool ( floor planner).

As its south west facing , get planty of sunshine in most of the gaden except in rear which gets the morning sunlight.  The sheds you see in the corner will be demolished.

Things I am looking are an outhouse in back ( around 4 meter by 3 or so) , a patio area in front with seating and bbq area and fire pit.

I have no idea what tree, bushes flowers etc to use. I am green fingered but more muscle than knowing the details.

Thanks in advance.

PS: I may have cross posted , apologies for that.

  • Great drawing. The below website page has some tips on landscaping design
It seems like you would like a modern garden since you are using geometric shapes and clean lines. Ever considered lifting the back a bit with 2 steps to add a bit of dimension to your garden? Another nice element would be to add a wall on one side in order that you have a bit more material mixture in your garden.
A pond is great for relaxation and bringing nature to your garden.
Also you could have a paved patio in the back instead of a wooden one, since this will be more maintenance considering the trees surrounding it.

You need to decide what you want.  Design looks promising but do you want to attract wildlife, grow vegetables?  Do you want low maintenance of lots of perennials, flowers, grow some favourites? A pond perhaps?r
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

This photo was posted a while ago and the garden was completely cleared and levelled.

No wildlife as such. I want flowers and low maintenance perennials which gives color to garden in all seasons.
