Magnolias

I am looking at buying a magnolia for a front garden. Dad recommended a Grandiflora but I have read they can grow really big, I.e taller than the house. And that's not what I'm looking for ideally. 

I have had a look online and the Ann, Jane and the Soulangeana look ideal. What would you recommend? The site has the backdrop of the side of the house, and gets full sun pretty much all day. Lavender, Berberis and Pyracantha will compiment it.

    How much space do you have? A soulangeana will reach small tree size but quite slowly. Another that is very beautiful is Magnolia x loebneri ‘Leonard Messel’.

    Height wise I'd like it no more than 4/5 metres as that is the height of the side of the house. It will be planted around 2 - 3 metres away from the house. And will have about 2-3 metres each side to spread.
