Cardinal beetles and lily beetles

After spotting what looked like a lily beetle the other day. I thought it strange for them to be out and about and nowhere near lilies, I googled the life cycle and came across pictures of cardinal beetles. To the untrained eye, they are very similar. I wonder how many are squashed in a case of mistaken identity.
I went for the red beetle but it evaded the pinch. Maybe that was a good thing.
I've got fed up with lilies anyway so this won't be much of an issue for me. If they pop up this year so be it and if they don't, that's fine too.
In London. Keen but lazy.

I only kill the red beetles that are actually on my pots of lilies. There are a lot of them and the reason I grow lilies only in pots where I can check them daily
