Black-Shouldered Kite

Much excitement here, I have identified a Black-Shouldered Kite. It has been around all winter but couldn't get a positive ID as we have Hen Harriers as well. This bird is much whiter with black across the eyes and it hovers.   :)

I had to google that.  Looks gorgeous.

None round here tho we do get hen and sea harriers between here and the coast as we're on the northern edge of the Marais Poitevin with lots of low lying marshland and drainage canals and channels.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

@Obelixx I first saw it perched in a tree, it was the black and white that stood out, I think it is quite rare around these parts, but it seems to have taken to the open fields with wooded areas.

    That is a gorgeous bird.
  • As a keen birder you had me itching to find out where this bird is........ Then i realized you live in SW France and i was so disappointed. Gorgeous birds wish it was in the uk.

Sorry @Cottage Compost I am down in the south near the mountains! The locals wouldn't have a clue what it is, birds are just birds of varying sizes to most of them!
  • Seriously Jealous! Enjoy.
