I was just wondering if anyone had ordered, or had any dealings with Gardening Express. Their prices and range of plants always seem reasonable whenever their ads flash up.
Hi Pete I've not bought from them, but recall some negative comments on the forum over the years. This link should throw up comments from others here about the company -
I wasn't very happy with them, packaging very poor, broken plants and distorted plastic pots because they were crammed in so tightly. This is what I said on that other thread. "My plants from GExpress were packed very badly. At least I was able to take a cutting from the broken Dicentra Spectabilis which took and is now a nice little extra plant."
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
My experiences recently have been of the good sort. I bought a bargain bundle of Amaryllis soon after Christmas and all 10 of them have flowered, many have 2 spikes. I bought the bargain bulbs also at the same time, and they have all sprouted. Hopefully, they'll flower soon.
Last May/June, I got a clearance bundle of dahlia, daylilies, lilies, iris and gladioli for £5. All except the dahlia flowered, though late around September/October. I haven't bought plants though, so unable to comment on them. HTH.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.

This is an awful company who should not be in business. They have no contact number so you cannot speak to them. Their online forum/help is a waste of time, they want photographs of everything. How about they send me a photograph proving that their plants we decent before they sent them? I ordered ten Heleniums, they arrived as corms, not plants, in a bag of soaking wet compost. Four were totally rotten, four showed no signs of life whilst two were shooting. Utterly appalling rubbish!
I have bought on a couple of occasions over the past 3 years, both orders were for quite a few plants as we had just moved into a new house few plants. I was very happy with packaging, size of plants etc. My send order was actually last month which included a few Thuja Smaragd, after a few days I noticed one of the Thuja's looked a bit brownish at the top, I planted it anyway as that is what their site suggested in case any plant looked under the weather. However no change after a few days so I took pictures and sent via their online chat system along with my reservations. I got an almost immediate response that they will replace it free of charge and no need to return the poorly thuja. I received a very healthy thuja the following week. I would not hesitate to buy from them again and would recommend using them.
For the record my purchases from them has so far totalled about £700 which was for quite a diverse range of plants. I would however never buy from roots plants as they sent me the incorrect type of plants which differed from my order and even their own packing list. I had mixed experience with crocus, some plants were good while unders where undersized or unhealthy and they took ten days to respond to my complaint which indicates that they get a lot, it was the same with roots plants.

Helenuims don’t grow from corms.

I have on two separate occasions lately ordered two hydrangeas. I was amazed at the quality of the plants and their maturity. They are doing extremely well since I planted them out and I couldn't praise them enough for their packaging. They keep you up to date with what is happening to your order and when it has been sent out. I have another order in the pipeline for different plants so it will be interesting to see if they are equally well packed and mature. Will report back in due course.
