Looks like it might be a Hypericum. Bright golden yellow flowers in the summer and the leaves have a strong lemony smell?

I think it is too as Lizzie27 said.
It is funny but I never considered it smelled lemony, there is a smell and I like it, but just goes to show I never thought about what the familiar pong was. Now I will have to go out and smell it, and it isn't nice outside at the moment. So it will bug me until I do :D

There are lots of varieties of Hypericum, but all have more or less the same requirements and care, so they're easy plants.  :)
I dislike them intensely - apart from when they have their berries. The yellow flowers are so garish.
I've never noticed the smell - but I have a very poor sense of smell which is probably the reason.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Nothing wrong with garish  :)
He calls her the chocolate girl
Cause he thinks she melts when he touches her
She knows she's the chocolate girl
Cause she's broken up and swallowed
And wrapped in bits of silver

I was wondering whether it's because the poster, like me, does not like yellow flowers (don't ask me why, I like yellow but not in flowers except for Achillea) :D That shrub would be donated quickly if it were in my garden
