I was sent a beautiful bunch of flowers today, including some tulips which were still attached to their bulbs... I presume I should cut them off before putting them in the vase?
Not heard if that before. I would leave them on and then once your flowers have finally gone over store them for planting in the Autumn

It happened quite a lot with flowers sold from occasional plots run by Rotary etc. to sell flowers for their fund-raising efforts. If you put the bulbs in water they'll just rot and, in my experience, if you put them in compost to grow on they will fail because they've been planted as a cash crop to produce one flower and not with the care needed to make them long lasting perennials.
