Is this a rat hole?

Hi everyone
I have never seen this before all this dirt was not here before anyone can tell me if this is a rat hole. Thank you

    Hello jcook and welcome to the forum. I have to say that it certainly looks like a rat hole to me. I have them in my garden occasionally and they do excavate like that.

  • I agree with @Ladybird4 that the answer is probably yes. I remember rats digging holes under my dad's house that had lots of earth around the openings. And it was definitely rats because a young one wandered down our hallway and then sat up watching us through the open living room door. The cat was too lazy to chase him and my parents and I were just staring back in shock.

    Rat hole,  you can also detect them buy the smooth ground near to the entrance,  the belly and the tail smooth away the soil then slightly compress it, depending on how long they’ve been there.
    I fear there are going to be a lot more rats around in the near future. 🐀 
    One pair of rats can make 2,000 in a year,  it’s not a good idea to release them somewhere else.
