Calla lillies

My neighbour is getting his garden redone and has just presented me with a couple of calla lillies. Unfortunately I don't know what to do with them. I gather they need to be protected over the winter, but does that mean in the house, in the garage or in unheated greenhouse?

We keep ours in their pots in the greenhouse.  No watering until early Spring, and only very sparingly, so that the tubers don’t dry out.  Around about Easter we water so that the soil is moist and give a weekly liquid feed.  They don’t go outside until the risk of frost has gone.
  • Thanks KeenOnGreen. I've put them in the greenhouse and I'll leave them alone until spring.

Is that a Calla, looks like a Canna.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • It really depends what variety you have; I leave the ordinary white one outside all year but some of the hybrids are very tender and I have lost them over winter in a cold greenhouse.  Why don't you ask your kind neighbour for advice?
