Hypericum question

BigladBiglad Posts: 3,035
Forgive my ignorance but is Hypericum Hidcote the same as Hypericum Moserianum. Google suggests that they are different. I was expecting Hidcote but the label on the plant that arrived says Moserianum.

Also, does it/do they have thuggish tendencies?

They don't seem to be the same at all @Biglad.
Foliage look horrible - that sickly pink edged stuff. Coupled with those garish yellow flowers - not something I'd care for, so I wouldn't keep it. Depends on how you feel about it though.  :)
Looks like it's much smaller anyway.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Definitely not the same plant, though very similar.
We have had problems with it self seeding rather than spreading by suckers or such like.

    Thanks folks.

Pretty much my thinking @Fairygirl. It's been potted up and will stay that way until the spring. I'm doubtful it will make it into the ground.

I don't like the ordinary ones much either, if I'm honest. I like bright colours, but the flowers are too garish.
I do love the berries though, so I'd need to stick something in front of it to hide it when it's flowering  :D

  • I have Hypericum Moserianum, lots of it...
We inherited it and whilst it is very floriferous and personally I think the flowers look quite exotic, beware! Once established (which ours is) it is invasive and tough, very tough. It will work its way through brickwork, under walls and paths and whatever. I pull out yards of it during the year and it just keeps coming...
    Beware where you plant it.
Just another day at the plant...
