Poppy seeds

peteSpeteS Posts: 963
I've just cut off these seed heads from my one and only poppy somniferum grown in a pot. There are plenty seeds inside, but when and what is the best way to redistribute them. Thanks.

  • You can either scatter them on the ground now or empty the seeds into a dry envelope and save to scatter or sow in spring. If you are able to easily recognise the seedlings I would say scattering now in borders where you wish to see the poppies is a good option. I just let my poppies self-sow every year and then pull out the seedlings/young plants I don't want in April the following year.
