Plant ID

Can anyone tell me what this plant is, please?

It has been in a trough for a few years, and still seems fairly happy. All it has had this year is an occasional bit of water.

Cheers

Ferdinand

    A phormium.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Thanks.

So winter care is mulch, and perhaps wrap it up a bit from the end of the month.

    The position is relatively sheltered.

I've never protected mine. They're very tough. I've had them in every garden I've had, with all the weather that gets thrown at them here, all year round. As long as they have good drainage, they don't need anything. The only thing I do is knock the snow off as it can break leaves. If it's only an inch or two, I don't bother though.

I don't do anything to mine other than divide every so often if needed. Some can lose their variegation.
