So I have planted bulbs for the first time in many years - bought loads of pots and varieties . I planted a lot of allium in 2 of these pots about 3/4 wks ago and was suprised to see them sprout- should I have kept them somewhere else ?

Don't worry, they will slow down when the cold weather hits.  Last year all my ready planted alliums did the same. They flowered this year a little earlier than usual, but then it was also hot early on this year. It's been a funny year 2020, I will be glad to see the back of it.

Mine have done exactly the same!! I bought them from Aldi and potted them and they are sprouting well.

Most of the big Alliums come from the Steppes so they have evolved to be cold season growing.  That way they can flower as soon as it is warm enough. Many of them actually lose their leaves altogether before flowering.
