Plant ID, please

I am not sure which plant has these seed pods. I suspect it is something really common.

They rattle lightly when shaken, like a rice maraca.

The supplementary is do I need to remove them, to avoid a plague of whatever-it-is next year.

  • Those are the seed pods of aquilegia. I usually shake them all over the garden and wait with anticipation to see what colour they come up.

    Yes ... aquilegia ... I allow/encourage self seeding then move the easily identifiable seedlings to where I want them in the spring. Lovely. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    They won't always be like the parent, so you can often end up with some muddy, undistinguished colours, but equally - you could end up with something nice  :)
    Easy enough to pull out if you don't like them though. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    They also look like Delphinium seeds. It’s a bit late for aquilegia, or is that just mine. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
