How to keep gingers, fushias & physalis happy!

Hello! I have two queries!
1: Can ornamental gingers, fushias & physalis  (I think - orange lanterns) be overwintered in pots in a sheltered part of the garden? I’ve been given one of each & as our soil is heavy, red clay & a lot of the garden is shaded, I wonder if this might be better.
I wondered whether next year they can be repotted & kept in pots?
Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Ornamental ginger needs to be frost free.  Fuchsia depends on the type. Some are hardy and will be fine in a pot in a sheltered position, like up against a house wall. Others are more tender and will need cover.
