Spring bulbs sprouting now (october)

Hello. I have planted many pots with bulbs in the last 2 weeks. I was prepared to leave the pots in the front yard all winter long and wait till spring for flowers. Yesterday I went out and, with great surprise, I found many leaves standing out from the ground. I have many Iris reticulata and Muscari that look like ready to bloom. What's going on? We had a lot of rain here in the last days with quite a "cold" temperature (something around 13° during the day), so I do not understand why they are already coming out...is there something I should do? Do you think they will flower also in spring? Thanks!

Muscari always, and Iris reticulata often, put up their foliage in autumn before flowering in the spring.... often triggered by heavy rain after a dry spell.   It's quite normal and nothing to worry about.   :)

  • My muscari started putting up leaves back in August (I think I posted about it), it's getting earlier every year. As @Dovefromabove says, it's normal at this time of year. Also, don't worry if the new leaves flop over and look sorry for themselves over the next couple of months as the weather changes. The plants will be fine and you should get a lovely display next year.
