To plant out or not to plant out?

I have some healthy lychnis coronaria seedlings growing happily on my windowsill. I’m not sure whether to plant them out now, while the soil is still warm, or overwinter them in my cold frame. Any advice gratefully received!

I'd certainly get them hardened off outside, using the frame as a halfway measure if you feel that's necessary, and then leave them outside. It obviously depends on your conditions how quickly you do that.
I've had a small one sitting in a 3 inch pot since last year. It's had no protection here at all.  :)
I should have asked what stage they're at though - are they in individual pots?

  • They’re all in 9cm pots right now, looking very happy with themselves.

Oh they look very good. Should be no problem getting those hardened off and outdoors.
Mine sat under a bench - I think it's still there, as I don't really have anywhere to put it.  ;)

  • Great stuff, thanks! In that case I’ll stick them under the patio table (and hopefully not forget about them!).
