Turning grass to mulch

I’m hoping to turn this strip of grass to a mulched area with a few plants dotted along. What is the best way to do this? Garden centres have suggested different things. It gets a lot of sun. Ideally a quick and simple way would be best. Any help would be much appreciated.

Strip the top off with a turf stripper. Mix compost  in with the subsoil. add fertiliser. Plant. Use  bark or gravel as mulch on top.

    It's as simple as that @STUARTDAUWALDER :)

In addition to @fidgetbones' advice,  just be sure to pick plants that will suit your conditions there, and your general climate. Take into consideration how much time you have, or want to spend, maintaining it.
Some climbers would be nice too, if you want to cover the wall, but you'll need some basic supports for that. You'll get advice on the forum anyway, depending on what plants you want to put in.

GCs will try and push you into buying stuff they want rid of, so check before buying that they suit you - not the other way round.  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
