Choked yucca

I have been asked to resuscitate a pot bound yucca.  Roots are completely  wrapping around itself inside the pot.   Pleas can you guys advise me     Hack at the roots ??

Very difficult to tease the roots.    They are soooo compacted

I have chopped the bottom off the rootball using an old bread knife, that seemed to do the trick and stimulated new root growth.
