New Zealand Flax (Harakeke) from seed

I have been given some New Zealand Flax seeds today.
Have searched for how to grow these from seed, can only find 'edible flax seed'.

When should I sow these and under what conditions, etc.

@TerrysWorld  Hi - being from NZ I have 2 plants in my garden grown from seed.  Actually, my brother (who lives in Switzerland started them off).  They are growing well on his roof terrace.  I will check with his method but I am pretty sure he put them in the fridge in some handy towel for about 5 weeks or so before potting them.  I will check for you over the weekend.  Cheers mate!  Tui

@TerrysWorld  -  Hi - and the answer is ....He just potted them into some potting mix and like topsy - they just grow'd!  I live in the South of France so Mediterranean climate, hot dry summers and winters can be rather cold and my two are slow to get going.  They grow in NZ equally well in a climate that is temperate in the North and Alpine in the south whether they be, red, green or bi-coloured. I wish you well.
