Pruning a cherry plum

B3B3 Posts: 26,573
I prune my cherry plum lightly throughout the year, but it's got a bit too big and I will need to cut into the old wood.
When is it safe to do this?
Blossom is not an issue as the sparrows eat the buds anyway.
In London. Keen but lazy.

Safest is when the sap is rising so April to July. Some say anytime while there are leaves on the tree but late pruning is a bigger danger.

I'll be patient then. Thank you @steephill. I wish I'd done it a couple of months ago😕
