Dahlias

I love dahlias and have created a bed for dahlias in particular. It has been great since July but stopped flowering in late August. The plants are covered in buds but they simply are not opening. Does anyone know why this would happen?

Are you still deadheading, if not that could be one reason. Possibly a reduction in light levels ?
Also, not being funny but if you are deadheading, are you sure you're deadheading the right ones, the long pointy bits as opposed to the round ones ?
  • Yes I am deadheading daily and I deadhead the right ones. The plants are healthy and get full sun. Perhaps they need a feed.

They are very greedy and thirsty plants. I give mine a liquid feed weekly.
    There are ashtrays of emulsion,

  • I think I will try that. I have been feeding but not weekly. Thanks
