Noordviks glory deadheading

The blooms on this dahlia last for weeks as the petals die from behind and don't show.
There are loads of healthy new buds, but they don't develop. Are they waiting for the bloomers to be removed?

    Yes I would always deadhead.
Stop the plant spending energy on producing seed pods...promotes new flower.

The aim of all plants is to reproduce...stop that from happening and they will keep going. In the case of Dahlia until the 1st frost.

Thanks @Silver surfer. I'll cut off the flowers and give it a feed.
