Overseeding the lawn in September - any tips

I am planning to overseed the lawns in September, after scarifying. Do you have any tips?

We have a spreader (that we use for 4in1) which suggests it can be used for grass seed on the most open setting, but surely then it will just pour through. Have you used a spreader like this to reseed a lawn? I thought maybe put it on a lower setting and do several passes might work?
Age doesn't make you forgetful. Having way too many stupid things to remember makes you forgetful.

    It probably has to be on the highest setting otherwise it just gets clogged up. You need to give it a shake now and then because the holes can still get blocked.
