Can someone ID this shrub please?

Hi,

I've got this very sad looking shrub in my garden, but before I get rid of it, I wondered if anyone could identify it?

There's an orange plant growing from the base, which I don't think is part of the shrub...

    Spirea possibly.
The orange plant is Montbretia, the common Crocosmia.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I also think it is a Spiraea Shrub. Maybe Spiraea x Arguta.

Spiraea arguta (if that's what it is!) is lovely in spring, wreathed in little white flowers.  You prune it after it flowers, not this time of year or you'll remove all the flower buds.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Thanks everyone, it did flower with some small white flowers last year so the Spirea Arguta seems to be the most likely.  Unfortunately it's looked very worse for wear the last couple of years so I'm going to replace it with a shrub rose :)

    Thanks again.
