Nandina plum passion

I have a Nandina Plum Passion which is lovely, very tall and wispy and beautiful colours. It did blow around a lot last year so it has been secured to a post in a couple of places. I’ve never really pruned it, except for last winter when I took out a couple of lower straggly branches. Should I be pruning every winter? Or can I just leave alone to do it’s own thing?
