I promised my granddaughter I'd plant and grow her some ginger. So she brought me some roots she'd been given. I planted them in pots, in my polytunnel, and they've grown!!
However, what do I do with them now.they are about 3in tall in pots, looking good. I am in mid Lincolnshire near the coast, It gets cold and windy, I do have a small greenhouse that I can maybe heat, but bearing in ming=d the cost , should I maybe 'lose' these plants and just buy some plants next year.

It would be a shame to disappoint your granddaughter,  is it possible to keep just one maybe and overwinter it indoors? 
My knowledge of growing ginger is not great, l must admit.  Eating it is another matter

We grow tumeric and the pot is kept in our conservatory.

The foliage dies back in the winter and then resprouts in the spring (well the roots that we haven't harvested).
