Propagating Sansiveria Laurentii

I have a Sansiveria Laurentii plant which roots have completely taken over the pot, it has maybe 40 leaves in total.

I want to propagate by splitting the roots in smaller pot with around one Leaf+root in each pot, can I use 100% Seramis Clay Granules without using any of the original soil in the new pots?

I split mine with an old bread knife as @Hostafan1 has stated. Then I pot on with a freedraining houseplant compost into a terracotta pot.

You can propagate sansevaria from leafcuttings and possibly the clay granules would work as a propagation medium but I can’t see it working as a longer term growing medium without a proper hydroponics set up ... certainly cannabis ‘farmers’ seem to find it works for them along with a hydroponics set up as the clay granules weigh less than compost when dry and are therefore easier to transport without a rousing curiosity.

It’s interesting that we seem to be getting more queries about stuff used in these systems just lately. Maybe lockdown has led to a rise in DIY?

A lot of cactus and succulent growers are raving about clay granules, normally bought as cat litter though. I've tried pumice mixed with various quantities of compost and for some succulents, sensitive ones that need very little water generally, it does seem to work well. Sansevieria (or dracaena if you care about the name change) seems to do fine in a well-drained potting mix though. What are you planning to do with all the plants in the long term?

The air in my home is pretty bad, feels confined. So I want to expand and grow as fast as possible more sansiveria Laurentii leaves to get more Oxygen production and elimination of toxins.

I was considering using scissors for division of roots, I dont think I have any old bread knives, is there particular reason to use old bread knife?

So my goal was to 100% fill with clay cranules, but this is a bad idea then without hydroponics setup?

I could take some of the original soil that came with the plant and smear it on to the root maybe 5cm diameter then fill the rest of the pot with clay cranules?
