The leaves remind me of a marigold.

I don’t think it’s a Marigold,  did they come from China by any chance?

  • Yes, i didnt know they was coming from  China until the delivery time came up
  • Luckily I have only planted them in a basket as I wasnt sure if I was planting some kind of spreading weed

Did they come as bare root plants or seeds?

  • They came as seeds, i took a picture of them as they looked a little like matchsticks

Those look like marigold seeds to me as well.  Hopefully another will confirm.  For sure not strawberry.  Ask your seller for a full refund.  Strawberries don't grow well from seed, unless it's those tiny alpine ones.  It was impossible to get any this spring, but order some bare root ones from a reputable U.K. seller for success next year.  You might be able to find something growing on runners this fall if you ask around or put a post on social media for your area.

  • Thank you, I did send the pictures of the seeds to the seller and even Amazon but they refused the refund as I had received them.  I shouldnt have been so stupid but thought Amazon was a reputable site.
I will definately buy some plants next year from my local garden centre

You received seeds.. but the wrong seeds.  If I ordered a size 12 dress and received a size 2 I would certainly expect a refund.

Don't blame yourself, with the pandemic and everyone gardening there probably wasn't a strawberry plant to have in all of Britain.
