NEW MEMBERS’ NAMES

pansyfacepansyface PEAK DISTRICT DerbyshirePosts: 17,099
Has anyone else noticed that there are a lot of new members with odd, impossible to remember, impossible to use without copy and paste, names?

For example, I’m just Pansyface, but a new member might appear and have a name like Pansyface13cV261pD.

Is there a reason for this?

Am I just old fashioned?

I've noticed that as well.. no idea why.  Better than their email addresses, which it was once upon a time.  Or was that just the auto title?

A few just look like they smashed the keyboard with a hand or two.  Or maybe they let their cat name them, by waking across the keyboard?

It almost looks like the password is added to the username...

When you register does the website offer to generate a username? Maybe that's where it comes from.

Auto-titled when you register, hence my name.

Ahh.. thanks for the explaination.  Surely it could just generate random plant names instead?  Along with an adjective?  GreyTulip, LaceyHosta, FatCucumber, SordidRose?

Agree, it makes it very difficult to address anyone or even, as @pansyface says, remember their name.

I thought it strange as well - noticed it just in the last month or so?

Presumably it's easy to change your username, if you become a regular poster?
