Holey roses!

Something is eating both leaves and rosebuds of my Arthur Bell- hence the blooms coming out somewhat less than perfect.
I had a look but couldn't find any caterpillars- my eyesight is pretty shonky, though. I don't know all the pests in this country so- any ideas? And is there anything I can do that isn't an insecticide spray? (Don't like using poisons)

I wish they didn't use such big close-ups.
I will get out there with my caving headlamp tonight and report back.,
