Moving cabbage from pot to bed

I started some cabbage plants (bought from garden centre, not grown myself from seed), in a container but although they have grown a little they seem to have stopped. My hubby is in the process of building me a veg bed so I was thinking of moving the cabbages to that in case the pot is restricting their growth/the roots. 
Can you move cabbages once they are established or will this damage/kill them?

Yes you can move them. Give them a thorough soaking first. The roots are usually quite stubby on a cabbage, though obviously avoid damaging them if you can.

It's common practice to start them off in nursery beds or pots and then put them in the final growing position later down the line.
