Prune Victoria plum or no?

My Victoria plum tree got serious leaf damage in the bad winds a couple of months ago, probably lost about 50% of its leaves.

Soon after a lot of new shoots started, and are now quite extensive. I assume this was in response to so many leaves being lost?

Anyway, a lot of them are in stupid places and would need pruned, will it be okay to do this in late summer, just before the dormant period? Or will I be doing harm removing them?

If you want to tidy/prune them now, that should be fine. Don't leave them too late like late autumn though. The idea is to allow them time to harden before winter sets in.
