Is it time yet..........?

I have loads of tadpoles (toads) in my pond, they have been in there since early spring, I know it takes about sixteen weeks for them to start growing their legs but as yet there is no sign. Perhaps they just like being happy in my pond as tadpoles.

Plenty of time yet, development can be very dependent on outside factors, temperature, food availability.

I found a source on the internet that said 16 weeks and that they usually leave a pond in May.

More accurately it is within a wide band from early June until the end of August in the UK, taking into account all the local variations in weather and climate.

As Phillppa says, sometimes they overwinter, becoming quite large tadpoles and metamorphosis happens in the following year.

I think it looks likely that they will stay as they are this year, they have algae to eat and they co-habit very well with the fish, I will let you know!
