How can I tell if this is bracken?

B3B3 Posts: 26,432
I have a huge fern that did its seed thing a couple of years ago  and there is also bracken knocking  about  the garden.  I  can tell  when it's  more mature but is there a way I can tell now whether  or not it's bracken?
It's  been growing  out of the path edging and I've  just potted it up a minute  ago

Quick look at images on Google and they do look like fern bracken but I'm certainly  no expert on ferns

@philippasmith2   I just had a look. A lot of academic disagreement and my own post here was the third one down!
I think I need to wait until it more mature and see how the fronds divide - apparently😐

Just out of interest did you intend to keep this if it's not bracken?

Yes. I do. Lots of shady spots in the garden

I really don't think it's bracken, the fronds and the way they are arranged look different.

That's good news @WillDB. It's smaller than it looks in the photo so I'll look after it and hope for the best😊

I get ferns springing up having accidentally brought one in a pot with my primroses when I moved house. They look like your photograph. If yours is 2 years old I think that it is a fern too.
