Powdery Mildew issue

I have a mint plant in a pot which I have had for several years which my father gave me. It has always been fine but this year it has been attacked by powdery mildew. I don’t want to lose it (for sentimental reasons) but am not sure what I can do. Has anyone any ideas please?

Cut the whole thing right down. It'll spring back up healthier.

Same as above, cut the whole thing down to about three inches or so.. use healthy bits for rooting in a glass of water (change the water daily).. and leave the rest to regrow.  Once a tangle of roots are showing start a second pot of mint.  The older pot of mint probably could use a dividing and repotting.  It may be quite congested if it's been in there for a few years.
