Have found this a couple of times right in the middle of the grass, when I pick it up in bag it feels very hard, would not think it is a cat, That is a rose petal across it.
Although there are ponds and puddles in this neighbourhood, and we’re not far from marshes, our visiting hedgehogs always have a long drink from the fish of water we out out for them. I think particularly at this time of year when the sows are suckling young, they can get quite thirsty.
“I am not lost, for I know where I am. But however, where I am may be lost.” Winnie the Pooh
Don't think it is cats, they usually do it on the garden and cover it, this is right in the middle of the lawn, just had my daughter over with her two collies, and they were sniffing like mad all over the garden, as if there has been something 'new'
When it appears again will try and 'inspect' it a bit more,
Thank you both, Gemma and Fidgetbones. We thought it could be fox, too much for hedgehog, and although we have two cats roaming often through the garden can't imagine it belongs to either of them!

One way to confirm if it is hedgehog poo, is you might notice bits of beetles in it.
