Houttuynia cordata...... Also known as fish mint, fish leaf, rainbow plant, chameleon plant, heart leaf, fish wort, Chinese lizard tail, or bishop's weed.

    An invasive thug.
    Perthshire. SCOTLAND .

Thank You! The invasive thug bit I'd figured out 🙄. It's growing up behind a huge raised planter on the border with a neighbour. (In between the planter and a concrete fence base so completely impossible to get to it to dig it out and there is only ever a couple of stems which come through each year as I keep trying to pull it out.  I garden organically but am considering reaching for a weedkiller for this one.  Any suggestions on other measures I could try first?

Oh man, what a nasty plant!
I inherited some when I bought my house and quickly realised it was horribly invasive. I spent 2 years trying everything I could think of to get rid of it and nothing worked. I dug out the entire raised bed it was in and sifted through the soil THREE times but it just kept coming back. It was the bane of my existence. I decided to try and live with it but this year it has started spreading into my lawn so I’ve started to spray it with weed killer. I don’t like using it either but unfortunately, that’s all I have found that kills it.

Ive now looked it up and can't believe it's something you can purchase!!!!!!! How awful.

Thanks for sharing your experience -
weed killer it might have to be then,  at least it is only a tiny space between the planter and the concrete fence base. Hopefully it won't upset anything else in the garden.
