tree-stump-has-be-stumped-
Hey,
So I have an elderberry tree in my garden and its going to be casting to much of a shady patch where my veg plot is going to be so today I began to cut it down, It was actually a lot easier than I thought and now im left with just a stump.
This is going to be trickier to remove as it seems quite deep rooted, so after digging around it I found 3 large roots which I exposed and then severed with a hand axe. How long can I expect to wait before it dies off and im able to easily remove it ?
any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated

If you've severed the main roots, then I'd just rock it back and forth as much as you can until it's loose enough to pull out - I've never come across a really deeply rooted elder - waiting won't really get you anywhere I'm afraid. Bite the bullet - it's cheaper than the gym

yea ive tried that it wont budge ... perhaps a sledge hammer may move it ?
hire a stump grinder.

Then I'm afraid you need to dig down deeper and undercut the stump with your spade ....................... and then get some mates round http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giant_Turnip

Ooooooooooo Errrrrrr. Don't you know elderberry trees are associated with witches? I hope you said a good luck spell before you cut it down.
Though on the other hand they are said to attract lightening so you should be OK.
