Advice - White spots and dark leaves on cornflower

Hi all,

Beginner gardener here. I have been growing cornflowers from a pack of seeds and soil bought from a supermarket around 5 weeks ago. They were growing really well however recently don't look so good. Some leaves have turned a reddy purple and white spots have appeared on the majority of leaves.

They are in the garden, in direct sunlight. I've been watering them every day with tap water.

What is wrong and what should I do?

I tried to zoom as much as I could but can’t work out if they are raised or flat. If they’re flat they might be light thrips damage or even leaf-miner damage. Not really likely to cause major issues.

I hope you have drainage holes in that container. Overhead watering may cause mineral deposits that looks similar to your small white dots. Usually caused by hard water. Purple leaves are signs of stress or leaves dying due to age.

The plant looks very congested in there. Might be a good idea to start planting out or splitting to other containers to allow them space for them to grow.
