Now what!

Hello everyone from rain soaked and wind blown Ireland West.
I have the arch in situ. Any ideas about what I should plant to the left? I have cardboard down as I intend to make a border along the edge and wonde if I need to put something like a hedge along there to the left to make the arch "work" in that position???All ideas greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Maggie

  • If you want a climber, how about wisteria? Would look great climbing up and over that arch.

I’d link the new border to the arch in a deep sweeping curve, big enough to take some shrubs as you go towards the arch ... it’ll look fabulous and really frame and set off the view across the lawns to the woodland. 😊

Thank you the The_herpetologist. I was thinking of wisteria and maybe a long flowering clematis.  Dovefromabove your advice re the sweeping border... can you explain the layout you would suggest please? Initially I thought I would plant "blousey" perennials to overflow the concrete and soften the edges as another GW reader suggested but a sweeping border sounds good. Also what shrubs? I am not crazy about shrubs as I don't know how to manage them so I need to learn a lot yet. Can you recommend "easy" shrubs?.
