These were growing right where my gate opens af have already been ruined so dug them up and put them in pots, hopefully can save them and relocate them to a more suitable spot.

Opium, as in the drug opium?  Are they harmful to dogs?

If your dog ate a vast amount of them!  We have them all over the garden as they seed freely and our 6 year old dog shows no interest in them whatsoever.    In fact we have quite a few plants that are in theory toxic he’s never had a problem.
