What’s wrong with my roses

Hi all. I have 12 New Dawn plants that went in as bare root plants early this year. Most are doing really well but three or four in one need are struggling. They’re growing fast and all but one have flowers/buds but the leaves are damaged/torn. I can’t see any pests on them but don’t really know what I’m looking for

And advice would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks!

 Rich

Can you post pictures of the damage please?

  • I did try but they didn’t upload for some reason. Trying again.

Keep on top of the watering for your new rose. Looks like the early stages of powdery mildew starting to settle in. Newly planted shrubs and roses require a great deal of watering in the first few years until they form a strong root system. If your soil is free draining, might be a good idea to lay some bark mulch over the top.

Don't worry too much about the damage/eaten leaves, it's most likely caterpillar damage. Both not likely to cause lasting damage to your roses. You can prune away badly damaged tips and branches.
  • Thanks borderline. The watering thing makes a lot of sense. Behind the fence for these plants are huge leylandii trees which suck up all the water. The rest of the plants elsewhere are doing really well. I’ll make sure they get more frequent drinks.
