crocosmia lucifer divide

When’s best time to divide this plant 
do I have dig whole thing up or can I just dig parts of it up 
mines is three years old now

    Best time would probably be spring when the new shoots are showing, or autumn, but it will survive it at any time really. Yes you can cut off chunks with a spade and just transfer them to their new home.
