What species is this tree and how do I save him?

We recently moved house and this tree was in an awful state when we moved in. I trimmed off most of the brown branches and have been watering once a week.
Do you think that will be enough for him to recover?
Also does anyone know what species it is?
It has sharp needles so assuming some kind of pine?
Many thanks

It looks like the sad remains of a blue Lawson Cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) I thought at first it may have been C. pisifera 'Boulevard' ; another blue cultivar .
They never regenerate from 'brown-wood' , so your best option is to discard .
