Help Identifying Shrub

Catmint61Catmint61 Posts: 2
We moved into a new house in February and in Spring noticed that one of the large shrubs seemed to have died. From its shape I thought it looked like it could have been a large azalea or rhododendron. We started to chop it back and then noticed new shoots growing through. I know it's not much to go on, but could anyone identify it for me. Thanks.

It is difficult to know at this stage. May have to wait until the leaves grow more. Yes, they could be a Rhododendron, especially if the leaves curl back and are quite thick/stiff. However, it also looks a bit like Cotoneaster too.

Yes, I've also been thinking it looks more like a cotoneaster leaf, but I think the old branches were too chunky for a cotoneaster. It looks like I'll just have to be patient. Thank you for your imput.
