Dappled shade but blistering hot mid day in summer

I have a patch 10ft x 4 ft ish but it could be longer. There's nothing there but a small patch of raspberries which seem to be doing ok. The length could be extended with a bit of work😖 improved clay but don't want to have to water established plants too much.
I would be grateful for some ideas. I know geraniums would do ok but I have loads elsewhere. I might consider cordylions but i don't really like them all that much
There's a fence that probably needs something to cover it  but not necessarily.
Shrubby salvias are growing well nearby too.
What shall I do??

I've planted it up now. There's a couple of salvias and various fair sized plants from cuttings  interspersed with some annuals while I see what survives. oh and some potatoes that popped up.
    Thanks for the bump @AnniD😀

I was going to suggest several roses until I saw your last post - probably less work overall for more blooms?

Ive left some space along the fence for roses 😊 @Lizzie27. I have some that need planting out and space for some new ones . There's always space .
