HORSETAIL WEED PROBLEM

Horsetail Weed has recently appeared on a vacant plot on my Allotment. We need to eradicate it before it spreads. It covers an area of 20 square metres.
Has anyone had any experience of it ? - I've read on the Internet that you can spray with glysophate mixed with wallpaper paste so that it sticks to the weed. But how much paste to a 10 litre sprayer ? - Anyone tried it.? - Or open to other suggestions.

If you take a look via the search function you’ll find a lot of existing info on this topic.

    Good luck in your quest.

I step on it gently to sort of bruise the surface, and spray with normal glysophate carefully.  Generally I just pull it out by hand.. but if I have a large crop growing through the gravel areas then the spray takes care of it pretty well.

I found some in my garden in the other month. I've been going on a nightly hunt with a trowel and digging up any that I find, including the long roots. Last few nights there's been nothing, so fingers crossed that it's just given up. I know that's not ideal or quick, and you need to keep doing it, but it does seem to work. You could always stick a membrane done over it to help.
I'd be wary of using weedkillers. If it's vacant, the next occupants might not be aware of their use, and that can impact on them, not to mention it affects more than just the horsetail.

You don’t spray the paste ( if you can then it is not mixed right )...

Ammonium sulphamate will do a better job the glysophate.  Mix 1kg in 1ltr water with ‘glug’ of washing up liquid, if you want paste then add the wallpaper paste powder.  Wear gloves and spread it over the plant by hand, cover with a clear plastic bag.

    Hi Folks,

@Smudgerii has given this advice on previous threads, and I've been pasting as suggested on bits of horsetail that pop up in areas of my garden.
It comes in from the woodland that forms one of our boundaries ... so we will always have bits and pieces of horsetail here.
I've been doing a weekly pasting of the ammonium sulphamate wallpaper mix for the last 4 weeks and I'm very impressed with the results.

Thanks for the advice Smudgerii ... this stuff seems to be far more effective than glyphosate has been in the past.

    Glad to help.

Can also be used on JKW, even better if you also inject the bottom of the stems.  Everything you need to do the injections can be had on Ebay.
