Gall, a maple leaf and its ecosystem

Hi, these pics aren't in the right order. I was pretty horrified to find the lower  leaves on my maple covered in nobbles (the 3rd pic is the back of it) - Mr Google says it's probably gall. Out with the magnifying glass and further inspection reveals a whole beautiful world on it. The tiny caterpillar looked like it was doing a dance. I'll leave the insects to the blue tits - now I know why they're always frantically pecking in the tree.
