I have pulled up this ?vine that had climbed all over a large rose bush. It was growing next to an old dead clematis root. Is it Russian Vine or bindweed or something else??

    neither russian vine nor bindweed.
Looks like some sort of clematis

Oops, thank you. Do you think this could be clematis too? It looks similar and has sprung up everywhere in my garden. (I'm a complete novice and the garden is new to me. Clematis is planted everywhere here but I hadn't realised it might have spread by seed).
  • I have the same thing growing all over my garden including my roses.  It never seems to flower.  Did you ever find out what it was?

If it's springing up everywhere, it could be the wild form known as 'Old man's beard', Clematis vitalba https://www.first-nature.com/flowers/clematis-vitalba.php

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
